Join HGWISE to hear from Dr. Shannon Turley, Assistant Professor ofPathology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Associate Director ofthe HMS Graduate Program in Immunology.Professor Turley's lab studies the molecular mechanisms by whichdendritic cells (DCs) prime T-cells to elicit adaptive immuneresponses. The ultimate goal of her group's work is to enableDC-mediated enhancement of cytotoxic T-cell reponses targeted againstcancerous tissues, and dampening of DCs' priming responses againsthost antigens in autoimmune diseases.Shannon earned her Ph.D.at Yale, taught at Bowdoin College for a yearprior to starting her postdoctoral fellowship at Joslin DiabetesCenter, and has been a P.I. at Dana Farber for 4 years, so she offersgreat insight about experiences as a faculty member both in liberalarts college and research institute environments..Coffee, tea, and a light breakfast are provided at all HGWISE Longwoodcoffee hours, which meet on alternating Fridays at 10am in TMEC 442.Everyone is encouraged to attend, including men and postdoctoral fellows.Feel free to come late or leave early, if you need to.
