SUMMARY:From Graduate School to Startup: Making Decisions, Taking Risks
DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear Dr. Betsy Ohlsson-Wilhelm ’63, ’69 share her experiences in academic medicine and biomedical companies. She will provide advice on how all of us can become better decision-makers by discussing her own thought process at major turning points in her career. In describing her own career trajectory, Dr. Ohlsson-Wilhelm will speak about lessons she has learned along her path that can apply to our own career goals. Dr. Ohlsson-Wilhelm has held faculty positions at University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry, and the Pennsylvania State University, College of Medicine at Hershey. She was subsequently recruited by Zynaxis, Inc., a startup company developing site-selective delivery systems where she rose to Sr. V.P. of R&D, with responsibility for programs related to development of improved antineoplastics, antirheumatics and infectious disease vaccines. In 1996, she and Dr. Katharine Muirhead co-founded SciGro, a biomedical consultancy that works with inventors, entrepreneurs, and investors to translate scientific discoveries and early stage technologies into successful research tools and products for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical diagnostics, and life sciences industries.Reception to follow seminar.
