DESCRIPTION:**please note earlier timeDr. Navid Madani is an Instructor in Pathology at Harvard Medical School and astaff scientist at the Department of Cancer Immunology and AIDS at Dana-FarberCancer Institute.  She came to the US from Iran during the Iran-Iraq war, andearned her Master's at California State University in Fullerton in 1991, andher PhD in biochemistry from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1999,studying host control of HIV-1 in the laboratory of David Kabat.Navid came to Harvard in 2001 as a postdoctoral fellow in the PathologyDepartment, working in Joe Sodroski's laboratory in Dana-Farber's Division ofHuman Retrovirology.  In 2005, Dr. Madani was promoted to Instructor, and shecontinues to conduct her own independent research program in partnership withthe Sodroski Lab, focusing on small molecule inhibitors of HIV-1 entry.Since Sept of 2007 Navid has served as the  chair of the Global Network ofResearchers on HIV/AIDS in the Middle East and North Africa (GNR-MENA), andmakes frequent trips to facilitate interdisciplinary research and promotediscussion of emerging infectious diseases in the Middle East.  In addition,Navid is on the advisory board of Network of Iranians for knowledge andInnovation (NIKI).  And while forging a stellar scientific career, Navid andher husband are also delighted to be raising their one-year old son, so shewill be able to offer us great insights on balancing work and family, and onintegrating research with a global health perspective.Coffee, tea, and a light breakfast are provided at all HGWISE Longwood coffeehours, which meet on alternating Fridays, usually at 10am, in TMEC 442.Everyone is encouraged to attend, including men and postdoctoral fellows.Feel free to come late or leave early, if you need to.
