SUMMARY:Cambridge Coffee Hour with Colleen Hansel
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a Coffee Hour with Dr. Colleen Hansel, Associate Professor of Microbial Geochemistry within the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. Dr. Hansel obtained her B.S. in Geology at California State University, Sacramento (1997), M.S. in Soil Biogeochemistry at the University of Idaho (1999), and Ph.D. in Soil Biogeochemistry at Stanford University (2004). She was a postdoctoral fellow in molecular microbial ecology at Stanford from 2004-2006. Her research explores both the genetic basis and geochemical controls on microbial mediated metal transformations and mineralization within ecosystems spanning pristine marine waters to contaminated soils. Dr. Hansel has recently decided to leave Harvard to accept a position as an Associate Scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, where her research will emphasize the role of marine microorganisms on metal cycling and reactive oxygen species production. At the Coffee Hour, Dr. Hansel will discuss the costs and benefits of life in higher academia and her decision to leave Harvard. Please RSVP to rbeinart@fas.harvard.edu
