Join HGWISE to hear from Dr. Angela DePace, Assistant Professor of SystemsBiology at HMS. Professor DePace's lab studies the mechanism and evolution ofgene regulation, using the early development of 12 recently sequencedDrosophila species as a model system. The overall goal of her group's research is to understand how regulatoryinformation is encoded in the genome, how it is deciphered as gene expressionpatterns in space and time, and how it changes during evolution to contributeto organismal diversity.Angela earned her BS in Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics at Yale, and herPhD in Biochemistry at the University of California - San Francisco. Inaddition to her interest in science, Dr. DePace also has a background intheater, and can provide us with a unique perspective on how skills from herexperience in performing arts may have helped her build such a successfulscientific career.Coffee, tea, and a light breakfast are provided at all HGWISE Longwood coffeehours, which meet on alternating Fridays at 10am in TMEC 442.Everyone is encouraged to attend, including men and postdoctoral fellows.Feel free to come late or leave early, if you need to.
